Charles Sack Obituary

Charles F. Sack, age 91, of Slippery Rock, PA passed away peacefully on Friday, January 16, 2026 at Grove Manor, Grove City, following a period of declining health.

Chuck was born July 20, 1934 in Boyers, PA to Louis J. and Mary (Vitale) Sack, first generation immigrants of Italy. He was of the Roman Catholic faith.

Chuck graduated from Grove City High School and went on to attend Grove City College where he graduated in 1957 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed as Plant Engineer at Cooper-Bessemer where he worked in design and production of a variety of products. In 1968 he left the world of industry and opened Big Buck Gun Shop on Route 8, Slippery Rock which went on to become a successful sportsmen’s business in the area. In 1984, after a brief period of retirement, he went back into the business scene to open the original Gun World in Harrisville, PA where he was the owner and manager until he fully retired in 1996.

Chuck was a hunting enthusiast who rivaled the best of them. He spent many years traveling all of North America for big game hunting. He claimed trophies including but not limited to elk, moose, grizzly bear, mountain lion, mountain goats, and the crown jewels: Big Horn Sheep, Dall Sheep, and Stone Sheep. He was always an avid outdoorsman who loved being in woods and fishing any creek he could find. He was a skiing enthusiast and loved Bluegrass music, traveling  all around Western Pennsylvania to listen to it.

On July 7, 1990 Chuck married Shirley J Fair and together they spent 20 years traveling the United States in their motorhome while enjoying all of the beautiful scenery of this country.

Chuck is survived by his wife Shirley, his brothers Ronald J. (Carolyn) Sack of Slippery Rock, Anthony J. (Lucy) Sack of Grove City, his nieces Vanessa (Shawn) Misner of Grove City, Andrea Sack of McLean, VA, his nephew James (Sandy) Slater of Pittsburgh, and his great nephews Nicholas Slater of Buckhannon, WV and Nathan Slater of Pittsburgh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Carol Ann Slater, and infant sister Evelyn Rose.

Family will receive friends at the Jamison McKinley Funeral Home, 117 North Main Street, Harrisville from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.  Chuck’s funeral mass will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with an hour of visitation beforehand.  Interment will follow at the North Side Cemetery in Butler.
