Edward Osburn Obituary

Edward William Osburn, 78,  of Forestville, PA, began his celebration with Jesus on October 29, 2024.  He was born on January 10, 1946, to Cliff and Helen Osburn at his grandmother’s home on Boyers Road and then grew deep roots next door where he and his bride, Connie, lived so very happily for the next 59 years.

Ed married Connie Agostino on June 26, 1965, after a sweet high school romance. Three years later they welcomed their first child, Shelly Dawn (Billy Daugherty) and then Kelly Jo (Gary Burke) came along.  These girls were his life. He was so proud of them and always told them so. His sons-in-law, Billy Daugherty and Gary Burke (aka Butch and Sundance), fell in love with Ed’s girls and five grandchildren were soon to follow; Gunner Daugherty (Monique), Gannan Daugherty (Camille), Noah Burke (Michelle), Kitrina Daugherty, and Reagan Burke.

Ed was a 1963 graduate of Slippery Rock High School and went on to work in the foundry at Cooper Bessemer before moving on to People’s Natural Gas Company for 32 years, finally retiring in 2000.  Ed took great pride in his work and made lifelong friends at “Peoples”, namely his best buddy John Stirling.

Faith, family and fishing ruled, and in that order!  Ed loved Lord Jesus first and humbly modeled this for his family.  He was a lifelong active member of the Forestville United Methodist Church serving as a trustee, Pastor Parish Relations Committee Chair, beautiful tenor in the choir,  member of United Methodist Men, and faithful participant in Sunday School and Bible study. He loved his church family and cared for the church just as he did his own home.  He quietly and humbly took on various roles, without the desire for recognition, including:  voluntary lawn care specialist, pest control professional, heating and cooling expert, flood restoration guru, snow removal supervisor, beekeeper extraordinaire, spaghetti prepper, and Connie’s #1 kitchen assistant.  Volunteers now needed - apply within!

Ed loved his pontoon and sitting on Lake Wilhelm, Moraine, or Pymatuning, but this hobby paled in comparison to the dedication he felt to the love and devotion to his grandkids. Ed created the “Tale of the Tape” which decorates the walls of his garage.  It highlights every grandchild’s milestone from potty training to sports highlights, graduation dates, two-wheeler bike rides, and heights and weights of each baby from birth to today.  It’s worth the price of admission.

Additionally, Ed was a 50+ Year Member of Grove City Lodge No. 603 F & A.M., Scottish Rite of Valley of New Castle, Syria Shrine of Pittsburgh, and Caravan 14 of Butler.  He took pride in the work of the Shriner’s Hospital and improving the quality of life of children in need of care.

Ed was preceded in death by his father, Cliff Osburn and his beloved mother, Helen Osburn.  What a glorious reunion! He is survived by his beautiful bride, Connie, of 59 years; his daughters Shelly and Kelly;  his five grandchildren; his nautical engineer, fishing buddy, and brother, Larry Osburn(Harrisville) and his wife Shirley,  a special niece, Tammy Brinker (Rollie) and  Brian Osburn (Audra) The Osburns- Larry, Shirl, Ed and Connie.  Forever it has been this fab four, a tight little crew.

From Connie’s larger family Ed was gifted with a slew of nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Come and celebrate Ed’s life with us on Saturday, November 9 at Forestville United Methodist Church.  Visitation will be held at the church from 1-4 with a joyful service beginning promptly at 4 o’clock officiated by Ed’s pastor, Reverend Ken Miller and son-in-law, Pastor Billy Daugherty.
